The Valley Metro connects the greater Phoenix area, including access throughout Scottsdale and other Valley communities. The local and light rail service is $4 for a day pass or $64 a month. Express/RAPID service is $6.50 a day and $104 a month. There are also Neighborhood Circulators, most of which are free.

Cost of Living

With all of the beauty and variety of Scottsdale comes also a cost of living increase for many - Scottsdale is about 14% higher than the national average in terms of living expenses. Housing is a steep one: 44% higher than the national average. The median home price is $501,068 and the median rent price $1,570 per month. Utilities, however, are about 8% below average. Transportation costs - bus fares, gas prices - are nearly on par with the rest of the country, with only a 2% increase over the average. Healthcare is also pretty close at 3% above.

Where to Live

Scottsdale has gotten a lot of attention for being a great place to raise a family, so if you’re planning to move yours there - or start one once you settle in - it’s great news. South Scottsdale has a high percentage - 35% and rising - of families and attracts a creative, artistic population. If you plan to live in Scottsdale but need to commute to, say, Phoenix for work, the Shea Corridor is a great spot to look for a place to live due to its proximity to the Greater Phoenix and Mesa suburbs. Paradise Valley, nestled between three mountain ranges in the low desert, is one of the Phoenix-area’s first million-dollar neighborhoods. McCormick Ranch sees a lot of condominium developments, drawing lots of millennials and empty nesters to the neighbourhood.
