Columbus is the 15th largest city in the United States. It is the capital and largest city in the state of Ohio. Columbus has a population of 850,106 people and was named by The Intelligent Communities Forum one of the seven most intelligent cities in the world. In 1908, Columbus became the very first state with the world's first water filtration plant. This plant was created to help filter out any malice in the water which in return would help combat the outbreak of typhoid the city was experiencing. The city saw fewer deaths due to typhoid that year, and the design is still being used till this day. Approximately 90 percent of people who live in Columbus are football fans. Specifically, they are Buckeye fans, which means football season becomes a town holiday for Columbus residents.

Named for explorer Christopher Columbus, this Midwest city sees the full range of seasons. The January low is around 21 degrees and the summer highs in the 80s; Columbus does get some kind of precipitation 130 days of the year, with an average of 22 inches of snow per year. That’s a bit above national average, so be ready for the cloudier weather. This means spring and fall are excellent times to move into a new home to avoid extreme weather.

Culture

The confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy rivers occurs just north-west of Downtown Columbus, and there are miles of trails along the Olentangy where you can walk, bike, and run. Check out the Topiary Park near downtown, which recreates a famous Georges Seurat painting using sculpted bushes, and then take yourself to eat at the incredibly varied and historic North Market -- home to the first location of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Ohio State offers community events like the Summer Outdoor Film series, which is projected on the side of the Wexner Art Museum. And of course, get into step by becoming a Buckeyes fan.  

Transportation

Columbus maintains an extensive city-wide bus network called the Central Ohio Transit Authority or COTA, but it is the largest metropolitan area in the country without a light rail system. You’ll likely want to have a car, unless you’re committed to living and working in the Downtown vicinity. Biking in the city is a great option in the warmer months but would prove difficult to maintain year-round.
